Amy

Bono actually reiterates the black and white of gender identification by wedding himself completely to the notion of a woman becoming a man/i>

Maybe Bono tells his story this way because this is how he experienced it. As you acknowledge, not everyone who transitions wants to go beyond gender. Some transpeople just want to be the sex and gender that they have always felt they really were.

I sympathize with your frustration at always having to explain yourself, and at simplistic and just plain wrong accounts dominating the popular understanding of transgender. Can we broaden this understanding without attacking people like Bono who do not see themselves somewhere on the gender wheel, but as quite strongly black or white? Why should cisgender people be the only ones with that privilege?

I hope your book is a great success!
